Texas drivers may prefer dark-tinted windows on their vehicles to protect them from the sun, but this can create safety hazards and result in a substantial fine.
“Dark tints can severely limit the driver’s ability to see pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicles in low-light conditions,” El Paso, Texas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras said. “Extra-dark tint on side windows makes it harder to detect approaching vehicles at intersections or during lane changes. Dark tints can prevent drivers from noticing flashing lights from law enforcement or emergency vehicles.”
Texas has strict laws regarding tinted windows to prevent visibility issues while driving, protecting the driver, passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians.
