Back-to-school: Gadsden school district shares updates on programs and policies

SANTA TERESA, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Gadsden Independent School District said it has boost a series of initiatives to enhance student’s education and safety.

KFOX14/CBS4 sat down with GISD Superintendent Travis Dempsey who, besides sharing his excitement for the new school year, shared updates on different programs and policies including the parent volunteer program, school dress codes, cell phone policies and other educational programs.

“We’re just very excited to welcome kids back,” Dempsey said. “It’s been a good summer. We’ve done a lot of great training.”

Pops Program

Among the district’s initiatives is the Parents on Patrol aka “Pops” program, which encourages parents to volunteer as school resource officers after the district had to content with a limited number of officers for years…
