The Doña Ana County Board of County Commissioners approved funding for needed repairs and improvements for Camino Real Regional Utility Authority facilities as the county continues to prepare to take over water and wastewater services.
During its May 13 meeting the commission passed a motion to terminate the agreement with Sunland Park that created the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority. The county has managed CRRUA along with the City of Sunland Park in a joint powers agreement since 2009. The agreement allowed for termination of the agreement “with four years notice.”
Throughout the four-year period, the two sides will negotiate how to split assets and debt. CRRUA will continue to operate the water and wastewater services in the southern area of the county and within the City of Sunland Park until that process is complete…
