EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Camp East Montana Detention Center, located at Fort Bliss and touted as the nation’s largest immigration detention facility, has become a focal point of controversy. The American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups gathered in El Paso to voice their opposition.
Marisa Limon Garza, executive director of the Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, criticized the use of military bases for detention purposes. “We already know that the use of military bases for mass detention is wasteful, intentionally cruel, and unnecessary,” she said.
