Man Sentenced in 2021 Jones County Homicide Case, Sister Also Pleads Guilty

A man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a 2021 homicide in Jones County.

On the night of May 15–16, 2021, a large gathering took place on Nitrogen Road, near the Wilkinson County line. During the event, an altercation broke out involving Cierra Butts and other women. Following the fight, Jeremy Butts fired several shots toward a residence. One of the rounds struck and killed Jada Simmons.

After the shooting, Cierra Butts purchased Jeremy a plane ticket to El Paso, Texas, and drove him to the airport. He was later arrested on May 18, 2021, by the U.S. Marshals Service and has remained in custody since then…
