AAA Texas: Prices down due to gas demand, seasonal fuel switch

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $2.71 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is four cents more compared to last week and nine cents less compared to the same day last year.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.86 per gallon, while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.49 per gallon. Drivers in Amarillo are paying $2.54 per gallon, which is eight cents less than last week and 24 cents less than the same day last year.

AAA Texas officials stated that the demand for gasoline has fallen to a four-month low. Officials also noted that higher gasoline inventories and the seasonal transition from summer-grade to winter-grade fuel will cause consumers to see even lower prices at the pump in the coming weeks.

“Drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump as gasoline demand falls to its lowest level in months,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “With the switch to more affordable winter-blend fuel and higher gasoline inventories, pump prices are likely to keep trending lower in the coming weeks — good news for Texans hitting the road this fall.”
