Undefeated Jorge ‘El Jaguar’ Tovar fights to bring back El Paso’s boxing glory days

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Jorge “El Jaguar” Tovar, an undefeated professional boxer from El Paso, is set to fight this weekend at the Southwest University Ballpark.

Tovar, who began boxing at the age of eight, credits his father for introducing him to the sport. Growing up in a neighborhood with frequent fights, he learned to defend himself and his sisters.

Reflecting on the local boxing scene, Tovar noted, “When I started boxing, there was a lot of pro boxers at the time… fights used to get packed at the Don Haskins.” Now 27, Tovar is determined to revive El Paso’s reputation as a “fight town.” He acknowledged the decline in professional boxing events but expressed optimism about the future. “I believe El Paso boxing is definitely on the rise and I believe we’re finally getting the attention that El Paso boxing needs,” he said…
