A man from El Paso was arrested on a charge of second-degree felony theft involving between $30,000 and $150,000 following what authorities described as a car repair scheme in Midland.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Reporter-Telegram, Pedro Hernandez, 40, was the subject of an investigation by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office dating back to Nov. 4, 2024. At that time, investigators said they spoke to a woman who said she and her husband owned a 2022 Ford F-350 dually valued at approximately $70,000. The woman told investigators that in February 2024, Hernandez took the vehicle to fix the front part of the truck.
The affidavit stated that Hernandez traveled from El Paso to Midland to pick up the truck and sent photos to show the progress of the work. Eventually, the woman told investigators that Hernandez stopped communicating and that after three months, the address listed on his driver’s license was a commercial building he allegedly rented as his body shop…
