It may not feel quite like fall in El Paso yet, but our pumpkins are really thriving! As we approach Halloween, El Paso porches are about to be covered in jack-o’-lanterns, gourds, and those giant pumpkins that somehow melt into goo by November. But how long can our pumpkins actually survive the Texas sun?

According to a new national study, El Paso pumpkins are actually built kind of tough. The Sun City ranked #8 overall in the U.S. for pumpkin survival, proving that even our Halloween décor can handle a little heat.

The Study Behind the Pumpkins

The playful “Pumpkin Longevity Index” comes from a Casino.org study that used data from Crime Data Explorer, WeatherSpark, and Google Trends to find out which cities have the best shot at keeping pumpkins fresh through spooky season.

Researchers looked at everything from weather patterns (warmth, humidity, rainfall) to pest and crime rates, and even how much each city gets into the Halloween spirit by searching for seasonal events and decorations online.
