City council to decide on gas rate hike; Texas Railroad Commission’s final say in 2026

EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso City Council is scheduled to review Texas Gas Service’s proposal to raise residential gas rates by 27 percent during its work session Monday morning.

The meeting follows a week of community meetings held across the city, where residents shared concerns about affordability and how the proposed increase could affect them.

According to Texas Gas Service, the proposed increase would raise the average residential bill by about $10 to $14 per month. In a statement, the utility said it filed the rate case to recover changes in its cost of service over the last three years and to support upgrades meant to keep its system “safe, reliable and environmentally responsible.”…
