EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An FBI field agent said Artificial Intelligence is inherently not a threat, but noted that as the technology becomes more prevalent on the web and criminals learn to leverage the technology, it is increasingly important for parents to take an active role in monitoring their children’s activity online.
“AI in and of itself isn’t the threat. AI’s used very positively in the public and business sectors,” said FBI Field Agent, Derek Hackert. “It’s the corrupt actors who have varying ways of enabling their crimes. AI basically enhances it and can be used as a force multiplier for that.”
Hackert said that the most present danger AI poses for children and teenagers in the country is that the technology is facilitating the schemes of perpetrators trying to sexually exploit children online through “sextortion.”…
