EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso County has been awarded $12.8 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the construction of a new and permanent transit operations facility in far East El Paso.
In partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, FTA’s Low or No Emission Grant Program and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program will fund the construction, “both strengthened through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” according to the news release by the County.
This will enable the El Paso Transportation Authority (ETA) to have a home along Windermere Avenue for the administration, operations, and maintenance of its fleet of 36 transit vehicles and six support vehicles.
“We are grateful for this significant federal support, which marks an important step toward building a cleaner and more modern transit system for the El Paso County,” ETA Executive Director Joh Andoh said. “This investment will directly benefit the residents of El Paso County by improving the comfort, reliability and sustainability of public transportation.”…
