State police rescue 17 kidnapped people in Juarez

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Chihuahua state police officers rescued 17 people who were being held against their will in a house in Ciudad Juarez this weekend, according to a news release sent out by authorities.

Six people were also arrested.

The rescue happened on Saturday, Dec. 20, following an anonymous tip received on a 911 emergency line, authorities said.

The caller said a group of about five people had entered a house with two people whose heads had been covered. That led to the deployment of state police officers out to the home.Upon arriving at the property, located on Ignacio Manuel Altamirano Street in the Obrera neighborhood, the officers spotted two vehicles outside. Several people exited the vehicles and attempted to flee when they saw police, authorities said.The state police officers heard cries for help coming from inside the house. Police then entered the home and apprehended four people who were attempting to escape, authorities said.
