DA Montoya says they have reduced backlog from past years

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – El Paso District Attorney James Montoya said his office has been hard at work during its first year and has made huge progress in reducing a backlog of cases from 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Montoya, talking to the media as he reflected back on one year in office, said they still have some cases pending from 2024 but they have virtually eliminated a huge backlog of cases from the years before that.

Montoya also said that his office’s active caseload was reduced by about 2,000 at the end of last year – a reduction of about 1,000 felony cases and about 1,000 misdemeanor cases…
