Camp East Montana migrant’s body sent to Army hospital, not medical examiner’s office

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Victor Manuel Diaz’s body, the third detainee who has died at Camp East Montana, was taken to William Beaumont Army Medical Center, instead of the El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office, said a lawyer representing Diaz’s family.

As KTSM previously reported, 36-year-old Diaz died on Jan. 14, after he was found “unconscious and unresponsive in his room,” according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement report.

ICE said Diaz died of a presumed suicide, but the official cause of death remains under investigation.

Randall Kallinen, a Houston-based lawyer representing Diaz’s family, said Diaz’s body was taken to William Beaumont instead of the County Medical Examiner’s Office, due to his death happening on Fort Bliss property…
