El Paso GOP rally in support of ICE outside Camp East Montana

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — As protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement continue across the country following confrontations between demonstrators and federal immigration agents in Minneapolis that led to the shooting deaths of two U.S. citizens, a small group gathered in East El Paso to show support for ICE and local law enforcement.

Members of the El Paso County Republican Party rallied outside the Camp East Montana Detention Center on Thursday, January 29, holding signs and flags backing federal immigration agents. One sign read “We Love ICE,” while another called on undocumented immigrants to self-deport. Fewer than a dozen people attended the demonstration, which remained peaceful.

Hector Cabildo, an El Paso Republican candidate running for U.S. Congress in Texas’ 16th District, said the rally was meant to counter public criticism of the agency and show solidarity with immigration officers.

“It’s such an unfortunate situation,” Cabildo said. “But we also need to stand behind our law enforcers because they’re putting their lives at risk every day to protect our streets. And I think they also deserve respect while also keeping them accountable if there’s ever a situation of abuse of power.”…
