EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – The U.S. Treasury Department has issued sanctions against five individuals, a timeshare resort and another 17 companies with alleged ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
These companies based in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and nearby communities allegedly obtain information from older American timeshare owners and contact them regarding fraudulent resale, sublease and new investment scams, the Treasury alleges.

Victims contacted through a bilingual call center controlled by the cartel are asked to pay advance fees and non-existent taxes. In other cases, the caller posed as a lawyer or Mexican government official accusing owners of having engaged in suspicious financial dealings that could land them in a jail unless they pay a fine.
“By controlling a timeshare resort, CJNG can defraud timeshare owners in various ways from the moment they sign a contract and for years to come,” the Treasury said in a statement…
