AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $2.61per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is six cents more when compared to this day last week and 10 cents less compared to the same day last year.
According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.86 per gallon, while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.43 per gallon. Drivers in Amarillo are paying $2.49 per gallon, which is 16 cents more compared to last week and 14 cents less compared to this day last year.
AAA officials note that the seasonal increase in gas prices is beginning to take place as refineries transition to producing summer-blend gasoline. Officials added that gasoline demand is also expected to rise in the coming weeks as spring break travel and seasonal getaway travel ramp up.
Amarillo gas prices up 11.8 cents, average $2.44/gallon on Monday
“Now that we’re approaching spring driving season, it’s typical to see gas prices begin their annual climb,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “The switch to summer-blend gasoline and the anticipated increase in travel demand are key factors pushing prices higher. There’s the potential for some additional upward movement at the pump in the weeks ahead.”
