Corvette had 44 handguns en route to Mexico, CBP says

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Border officers recently seized dozens of handguns from a late-model Chevrolet Corvette that was heading into Mexico.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the driver of the 2021 Corvette attempted to leave the country through the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge on Feb. 3 in Laredo, Texas, when border officers conducting outbound operations stopped them for inspection.

CBP said the vehicle was put through an X-ray and underwent a canine examination before officers found 44 handguns and 79 magazines within the vehicle.

Alberto Flores, the director of the Laredo Port of Entry, called it a “significant weapons seizure,” adding that it reflects “the relentless dedication of our officers to upholding CBP’s border security mission and keeping our border communities safe.”
