Meta expands El Paso data center, jobs, water projects

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — After a lawmaker called on Meta for transparency and answers to the El Paso data center, the technology company shared with the public investment growth, job opportunities and new water restoration projects in a news release.

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, called on Meta to hold public listening sessions and provide answers in a letter on Wednesday, March 25. In the letter, she requests that Meta hold public listening sessions and provide clarity on how the data center will impact the community.

“As Meta enters our community, it is my hope that you are interested in building community trust, which can only be obtained through a transparent process. Our community will live with the consequences of Meta’s data center, and we deserve robust community engagement,” reads part of Escobar’s letter.

Meta announces that the data center will expand to 1 gigawatt and be equipped with advanced infrastructure. With the expansion, the data center’s investment increased from $1.5 billion to over $10 billion.

In the investment growth, this, in turn, will support over 300 operational jobs at the data center once it’s complete, according to Meta. As construction grows, they anticipate that this will support over 4,000 construction jobs…
