EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso City Council voted unanimously to hire consultants to handle a civil rights lawsuit following a case that led to Daniel Villegas being falsely imprisoned for 20 years.
Monday’s action comes months before a scheduled jury trial happening in August.
As KTSM previously reported, Villegas was wrongfully convicted of a double murder in Northeast El Paso. A jury found him not guilty years later, and he was acquitted in 2018.
