EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Ysleta Independent School District announced its top elementary school teacher for the 2026-27 year earlier this week.
Angelica Castaneda, a teacher at Loma Terrace Elementary, is officially the district’s 2026-27 Elementary School Teacher of the Year, and will compete in the upcoming regional Teacher of the Year contest with fellow educator Jacob Pineda, the district’s 2026-27 Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Originally named first runner-up in the district’s Teacher of the Year selection process, Castaneda now assumes the role of Ysleta ISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year role following the recent announcement that former winner Arturo Cruz is transitioning to a new professional opportunity outside of Ysleta ISD, the district said.
