You may just be changing a song or sending a quick text but using your phone while driving can have dangerous consequences.
“It doesn’t take more than a second for you to take your eyes off the road and you could hit on another vehicle head-on, and it can cause some pretty tragic outcomes, and unfortunately, a lot of these outcomes where we see someone lose their life are devastating for families, communities, employers. These people deal with it the rest of their lives,” said Saxon Daugherty. PennDOT District 1 Safety Press Officer
In 2025, Daugherty said there were 9,419 distracted driving crashes in Pennsylvania, resulting in 54 fatalities. Of those crashes, 232 took place in Erie County, resulting in 96 total injuries and one fatality.
