(WJET/WFXP)– The case against a local nurse accused of driving while inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon before causing a major crash in the City of Erie is moving forward after three felony counts of assault were withdrawn and others were changed.
Court documents show 59-year-old Stephanie Weaver appeared for her preliminary hearing Thursday morning before Magesterial District Judge Timothy Beveridge, where three counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI were withdrawn, and four counts of felony intent to possess a controlled substance were changed.

However, documents show several other charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle, acquiring a controlled substance through misrepresentation and misdemeanor DUI and theft charges, were waived for court.
Erie police said Weaver was driving about 67-71 MPH on her way to work at AHN Saint Vincent Hospital at the time of the crash on August 6, 2025, crossed the centerline and crashed into two other vehicles, resulting in three people being seriously injured.
