A mix of snow to sleet to freezing rain hit a large part of the area early Tuesday, causing a slick ride for some morning commuters.
School districts like Corry Area and Warren County closed for the day due to these dangerous conditions.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation closely monitors the weather during the winter and crews went straight to work once precipitation began.
The press officer said PennDOT’s treatment plan depends on the temperature of the roadway and not the air.
PennDOT provides tips on driving during icy conditions
“We obviously have a little bit of residual material from some of our previous snow events in the last week or so,” said Saxon Daugherty, safety press officer of PennDOT District One. “If it’s still continuing to be pretty cold then we treat with anti-skid and salt and keep an eye on it and try to break up that ice and get the roads cleared.”
This ice came during PennDOT’s Winter Driving Awareness Week which Daugherty said you should always ‘know before you go.”
