Ruth Thompson, the founder of the ANNA Shelter, picked up the dog, now named “Captain” and rushed him to the vet for treatment.
She said his injuries indicated he was used as a bait dog by a dog fighting ring.

“We’ve gotten a lot of leads. Officer Duckett is investigating and feels very confident that he’s going to help get justice for Captain. And my hope would be… I think Captain is just a small player in a much larger game. And we’re hoping that we can help other dogs in his situation. At least in this ring,” said Thompson.
Captain is expected to recover from his injuries but may lose an ear.
No arrests have yet been made.
