Erie man loses over $700 in county sheriff’s office scam

(WJET/WFXP/ YourErie.com ) — An Erie man was scammed over $700 by someone claiming to be from the county sheriff’s office.

A 66-year-old victim contacted state police on Jan. 9 for the scam reporting that someone allegedly working for the Erie County Sheriff’s Office contacted them and convinced the victim to send $732.25 through PayPal to pay off a warrant.

Police state law enforcement will never ask for payments like cash, money orders or gift cards and continue to investigate.
