(WJET/WFXP/ YourErie.com )– As the Millfair Compost Center gets ready for the 2024 season, the composting center released their numbers for 2023, saying they took in over 5,800 tons of material from around the area.
Over the course of 2023, the Millfair Compost Center, located at 2301 Millfair Rd., said they took in 23,456 cubic yards — or 5,864 tons — of brush, tree trimmings, leaves and other materials from around the county while passing out 6,641 cubic yards of material.

Once collected, those materials are then ground up and turned into mulch and compost to help with gardening and other projects.
To put that in perspective, the compost center said that was enough composting material to fill two Olympic-sized swimming pools and weighed over 800 elephants.
“We’re incredibly proud of the hard work shown by the team at Millfair and are looking forward to a productive 2024,” said Community Relations and Sustainability Director Jessica Stutzman.
