Police to review video in crash at west Erie intersection that caused pedestrian’s death

Erie police accident investigators are reviewing footage from a traffic camera at a busy city intersection in their investigation into an accident early Saturday morning that caused the death of a 38-year-old pedestrian.

The victim, identified by Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook Monday as Robert Doty, of Erie, was pronounced dead Saturday at 3:47 p.m. at UPMC Hamot following the accident, Cook said.

Doty’s death was ruled as accidental due to multiple blunt-force trauma, Cook said.

The accident was reported shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of West 12th and Peach streets, Erie police reported.

According to investigators, a Subaru sport-utility vehicle was traveling west on West 12th Street when it struck Doty, who was believed to be walking north across West 12th Street and was believed to be in or near the crosswalk.
