A homicide trial for the shooting death of 30-year-old Shannon Crosby has been declared a mistrial.
According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, a comment made during testimony resulted in a mistrial. The Commonwealth will be seeking a retrial against 36-year-old Derrick Wright, of Erie.
Wright previously faced homicide charges after an alleged robbery attempt resulted in the death of Crosby at a short-term rental on McClelland Avenue.
Earlier on Monday, the Commonwealth called several witnesses to the stand, including Julia Gaerttner who also faces homicide charges for her alleged involvement.

Gaerttner testified that in January 2022, she drove Derrick Wright, Crosby and two others to a home on McClelland Avenue and testified she believed she was dropping the group off at a family member’s home.
She claimed she was concerned the individuals had several guns in her car.
Additionally, when they arrived at a home in the 3900 block of McClelland Avenue, Gaerttner was instructed to pop the hood of the car and go inside the short-term home and tell the people inside she was having car trouble.
