Blood Watch: More donors needed as A and O blood type supply dips

Several blood types have moved into critical status as hospital usage remains high with some A and O blood types.

While donor turnout has improved, the usage requires even more donors to contribute.

O-positive, O-negative, A-positive and A-negative are in high demand, and are critically low compared to other blood types.

Although the blood bank reports B-negative, AB-positive, and AB-negative as adequate, B-positive is still low and in need of more donors.

Within the Erie community, here are the percentages of the population:

  • O-positive at 39%
  • O-negative at 7%
  • A-positive at 32%
  • A-negative at 6%
