Crews investigating after fire breaks out at abandoned Erie home

A fire broke out in the 400 block of East 9th Street Wednesday afternoon.

Erie police and fire crews showed up to the scene around just after noon Wednesday. Firefighters found a vacant home with fire and smoke coming from the second floor.

City of Erie fire crews said no one was injured, and the home has been vacant for several years now.

“They went in there, found a bedroom on fire. They were able to extinguish it quite rapidly. There was a homeless individual on arrival that was being taken out by the police whether he was involved or not at this time is being taken care of by our investigators,” said Jeff Carroll, deputy chief of the City of Erie Fire Department.
