(WJET/WFXP)– Erie County Councilman Rock Copeland has requested the formal creation of an investigative oversight committee to look into the activity of Erie County Executive Brenton Davis’ administration.
Councilman Copeland requested the committee investigate the dealings of the Economic Development Department, the allocation of funds to entities through funds controlled by County Executive Davis like the EMS grant as well as employee health and wellness.

In the letter to county council, the county clerk and county solicitor, Copeland said council members shared concerns over the Economic Development Department’s dealings, citing the department’s spending which has gone from $350,276 in 2022 to $819,480 this year. Copeland also pointed out that the department’s role is not defined or constrained in the county’s administrative code.
He also claims there’s more concern over the funding pools set aside for the county executive to distribute as they see fit without a transparent process for how they’re distributed, claiming they should be distributed based on merit and not political or personal gain.
