‘Solar winter’ comes to an end, more daylight and sunshine expected in Erie

JET 24/FOX 66 Meteorologist Tom Atkins shares some “sunny” news with Erieites as we enter the second month of 2024.

As “solar winter” comes to an end, the darkest quarter of the year, Erie will gain about two-and-a-half minutes of daylight per day!

Erie is also exiting the “double whammy of darkness” time period as we enter February. Atkins calls it that due to December and January being the cloudiest months of the year in Erie.

So, February will not only bring more daylight, but more sunshine as well.

Atkins predicts more sunshine and warmer weather in the coming days, although winter weather will return around Valentine’s Day.
