Former U.S. Brig Niagara captain sets sail to new role at Bayfront Maritime Center

A captain of the U.S. Brig Niagara is taking on a new role at the Bayfront Maritime Center.

Christopher Cusson has been a part of the U.S. Brig Niagara crew since 2008 and a captain since 2018. He is now being appointed as the director of the maritime center.

Cusson said his duties as the director include developing programs, connecting with partners, and making a community center for Erie.

He said it’s amazing to have a bigger impact in Erie and get students involved in the maritime center and told us what he is looking forward to doing in his new role.

Momentum picking up to bring another warship to Erie’s Bayfront

“Really just connecting with more people in the Erie community and just having this place full of people, whether it’s youth and adults getting a lot of value from connecting with each other, our waterfront and Lake Erie,” said Cusson.

Cusson added the connection people have to maritime history and Lake Erie is important for people to value this aspect of the area.
