A new type of intimate show that got its funding footing on Kickstarter is coming to Erie for only two performances with no tickets available at the door.
“Tethered: An Immersive Theatrical Experience” will be presented Feb. 16 and 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Performing Artists Collective Alliance building, 1505 State St. Performance spaces will include the City Gallery, PACA theater, lounge, music room, third- and fourth-floor hallways and the fifth floor. Seating will be available in some of the spaces.
What is an immersive theatrical experience?
John C. Lyons, one of the producers of “Tethered,” said he saw this kind of show in New York City in 2022 and no one had created such an experience in Erie before.
“Typically, when you see a play, a concert, a movie or a dance performance you sit in the audience and there’s a stage or a screen in front of you. It’s a passive experience with a clear barrier between performer and audience. You’re locked in,” Lyons said via email. “In immersive theatre, you’re encouraged to explore. Attendees have more control over their unique experience, as there is no ‘correct’ order to view the show. There are a number of performances set up across the space/building and you start at one, follow your own path, and discover on your own. The whole experience feels more intimate and personal.”
