You never know what will motivate a young person to nominate a teacher for the Golden Apple Award. This week, we learned one reason is joy.
Amanda Chamberlain is an eighth-grade science teacher. She was a pre-med student in college, but after years as a camp counselor, she got her teaching certificate.
After 19 years in the classroom, she still loves sharing her passion for science.
“I like showing them fun things like microscopes. We’re talking about cells right now, and it’s hard, and I like trying to make it easier so they understand and hopefully they can apply that later on in their lives when they go to high school and maybe college,” said Amanda Chamberlain, Golden Apple Award-winning teacher.
This week’s student nominator was in the classroom when we awarded a teacher at Girard Middle School last year and said there was so much joy in the classroom that he wanted to share that with Chamberlain.
“She’s basically like a second mom to me. I’ve seen her help kids and I thought she really deserved it. She’s the best science teacher I ever had. That’s one reason I nominated her,” said Bryce Kaufmann, student nominator.
