( WJET/WFXP ) — February 12–16 is “National Salute to Veteran Patients Week” at Veteran Affairs (VA) hospitals across the country, and the Erie VA Medical Center is calling for additional community involvement this year.
The week recognizes and shows appreciation for veterans, increases community awareness and encourages individuals to volunteer in VA hospitals.

For 2024, the Erie VA Medical Center wants community organizations and individuals to respond to the call to visit their veteran residents, show appreciation for all their sacrifices and volunteer at the medical center.
One crucial job needed to fill is volunteer drivers at the facility, specifically in Erie, Crawford and McKean counties.
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN) Program provides free transportation to and from VA medical appointments for veterans with no means of transportation.
