Brenton Davis refusing to sign off on funding for Erie Co. DEI, homeless efforts

Funding for Erie County’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission and the region’s homeless population has hit a roadblock. After Erie County Council passed some $2.5 million for the causes, the county executive said he won’t sign off on the funding.

Council is considering their options with the funding that has been held up, even threatening the possibility of a lawsuit.

$1 Million for Erie’s homeless population and another $1.5 million going towards Diverse Erie might not even make it out of the county courthouse.

After being passed by county council last week, county executive Brenton Davis said he won’t sign on the dotted line for that funding.

“The county council operated outside of their abilities by taking these procedural votes without getting that certification from the county executive. The home rule charter is clear, and that certification is required. The county executive is not going to certify funds without a plan,” said Chris Carroll, Erie County information officer.
