HERSHEY — Few teams survive Day 2 of the PIAA team wrestling tournament.
Sixteen of them, to be exact, including eight in each classification. Reynolds is again included in that elite group after Friday’s 2-0 finish.
Fort LeBoeuf dropped its Class 2A quarterfinal to Chestnut Ridge before falling to Montoursville in the consolation bracket. Reynolds, though, beat Bald Eagle Area before topping Burrell.
Reynolds coach Casey Taylor sought a response stronger than last year’s after losing in Thursday’s opening round. That’s exactly what he got, his Raiders preventing another 0-2 PIAA finish.
“I don’t take a lot of stock in rankings, but we were ranked 23rd or 24th in most of the state rankings to start the year, so I’m very proud of the kids for the season that we’ve had so far and I’m glad that, in their minds, they’re not done yet,” Taylor said. “They want to finish out with three more wins.”
LeBoeuf bounced from Class 2A contention
Fort LeBoeuf opened Friday against District 5 champion Chestnut Ridge, a rematch of the 2023 quarterfinals. Unlike last year, however, bonus points doomed LeBoeuf in a 37-36 loss.
