Erieites binge on locally made paczkis to celebrate Fat Tuesday

February 13 is Fat Tuesday, the last chance for Christians to binge on sweet treats leading up to the Lenten season.

Paczki, the Polish dessert that is a staple of Fat Tuesday, was being sold at Fuhrman’s Cider Mill, also known as Luminary Distilling.

These fatty, fried and filled delights were only available while supplies last. The eatery had been preparing all week for Tuesday and made about 500 that were quickly selling off the shelves.

“We had a nice crowd last year, and then just with people following us on social media and knowing when we are releasing them, we’ve had a great following so far. It’s going to be a fun week,” said Maria Disanza, co-owner of Fuhrman’s Cider Mill.

The eatery will have a fish fry on Ash Wednesday and will be selling fish dinners every Friday for the remainder of Lent.
