Corry mother found guilty, convicted of first-degree murder in toddler starvation case

A 24-year-old mother was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday night in the starvation death of her two-year-old son.

After two days of testimony, the jury heard the case against Kayle Mealy, of Corry, and found she intentionally caused the death of her toddler in 20-21.

Erie County District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz tried the case, showing the jury photos of the crime scene and the living conditions of Mealy’s home.

The D.A. also played a recorded police interview with Mealy, where she admitted to leaving her son alone in his crib for 19 hours, before discovering his lifeless body.

The defense argued Mealy suffers from depression and anxiety.

At sentencing, Mealy faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
