The fee will help cover the million-dollar costs related to ongoing stormwater system maintenance and improvements.

One City of Erie engineer said the cost for a homeowner depends on the square footage of their roof. He added depending on the square footage, a property owner will pay $12, $24 or $36.

“It’s necessary to have a fund dedicated to stormwater. We have a lot of infrastructure issues in the city. We also have the permit requirement and the pollution reduction plan and they’ve never had a funding source before so the fee being applied to that is necessary,” said Erek Iwanenko, project engineer.

For non-single family residential, every 2100 square feet costs $24.
