With the region getting nearly five feet less snow than usual this year, it begs the question: how are local ski resorts faring?
Out of sight, out of mind can often be the case. But the folks at Mount Pleasant have this friendly reminder: while you don’t have snow in your backyard, they have it on their slopes.
Mt. Pleasant of Edinboro welcomes community for new season
Thanks to the Mount Pleasant ski resort’s investment in snow-making equipment over the past couple of years, half their slopes and their tubing hill are open despite the historically low snowfall.
Regulars were enjoying a sunny Friday morning on the slopes. But Mount Pleasant’s general manager said not everyone got the memo.
“So most of our full-time customers, they understand that we have snow and we’re here and we’re open. And they check the webcam constantly to see what we’re up to. The biggest impact we see is with a customer who’s never been out skiing or snowboarding, or tubing for that matter. It’s kind of far from their thoughts when there’s no snow on the ground,” said Andrew Halmi, general manager of Mount Pleasant.
