Fire breaks out on West 18th Street trapping one inside

The City of Erie Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday afternoon at 18th and Liberty streets.

According to Erie County 911, the call came in around 12:50 p.m. on Saturday for a reported fire at the Enrique Mexican Restaurant at 722 West 18th St. When crews arrived on the scene, they reported smoke and fire blew out a couple of windows.

There was reportedly one person trapped on the second floor of the restaurant as crews arrived, but they were later found safe.

“Nothing was lost. The second floor was under renovation and any cause is right now still under investigation,” said Captain Darin Beckes, City of Erie Fire Department.

No one was injured in the fire, and the fire department continues to investigate.
