Man dies after firework explosion in Erie County

An Erie County man was pronounced dead following a firework-related explosion.

On Sunday, June 30, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Corry Barracks, the Union City Fire Department and other area fire departments responded to a reported explosion on Hanlin Cross Road around 10:15 a.m.

While on the scene, first responders determined the explosion was firework-related.

Union Township man Michael Cross, 55, was found injured at the scene and was subsequently transported to UPMC Hamot by the Union City Ambulance Company along with StatMed Evac.

Cross was pronounced dead after arriving at UPMC Hamot.

This incident is currently under investigation by the PSP Troop E Fire Marshal Unit.
