Erie’s Fourth of July forecast: Slight chance of showers on Independence Day

Plan the barbecues accordingly this Fourth of July because the National Weather Service is calling for a slight chance of showers on Independence Day.

According to the National Weather Service office in Cleveland, Erie is looking at a 30% chance of thunderstorms on the Fourth of July, followed by a 30% chance of showers that night.

Those showers and thunderstorms are predicted to begin on Wednesday after 5 p.m. and continue into the night and following day. There is a hazardous weather outlook Wednesday in northwestern Pa. and northeast Ohio with potential severe thunderstorms into the evening with torrential rainfall and frequent lightning. Potential flash flooding and damaging wind gusts are possible.

The chance of rain showers on the Fourth of July will be before 2 p.m. with the likelihood of precipitation less likely as the day goes on. The high temperature will reach 81 degrees during the day.

Going into Thursday night there is a chance of showers after 2 a.m. The night will be mostly cloudy with a low of 63 degrees.
