Millcreek voters consider government study on ballot. What did past study commission find?

Nov. 5 won’t be the first time that Millcreek voters are asked if they want to create a commission to study and recommend the best form of government for the township.

Millcreek residents voted to do just that in 2011 in answer to a question almost identical to the question that will be on the ballot this fall:

“Shall a government study commission of seven members be elected to study the existing form of government of the municipality, to consider the advisability of the adoption of an optional form of government and to recommend whether or not an optional plan of government should be adopted?”

The commission in 2012 recommended that township government continue to operate under provisions of the state’s Second Class Township Code. The legislation permits government by a three- or five-member board of supervisors who approve township ordinances, policies, and spending and oversee operations. Supervisors may appoint themselves as paid township managers, as they do in Millcreek, or function solely as legislators with the option of hiring a manager.
