MEADVILLE — Quiet in the gallery is expected behavior on a golf course.
Quiet among Cathedral Prep’s male golfers en route to the course? Apparently never, according to coach Mike Keim.
Not only is good-natured ribbing common among the Ramblers during such trips, it’s all but encouraged.
“There’s no hazing,” Keim said, “but these guys are always chirping at each other in the van.”
If that was the case before Tuesday’s District 10 Class 2A boys team tournament, Keim likely sought earphones for Prep’s return to campus from The Country Club of Meadville.
It was there the Ramblers, a small-school program for the PIAA’s current enrollment cycle, finished first in the one-round, five-team competition. The low four golfers for Region 6’s titlists combined for a 311-stroke total.
Saegertown, Region 3’s top team, was second at 319.
Prep automatically qualified for the Oct. 23 PIAA 2A tournament. That 18-hole event is scheduled at Penn State University’s Blue and White Courses.
Meadville, thanks to their victory in Tuesday’s Class 3A team dual, is one round closer to also competing that day at State College.
