Local fishermen tried their luck on Lake Erie on Sunday in hopes of reeling in a grand prize fish.
Fifteen teams of fishermen went all across the lake for the Erie Pennsylvania Sport Fishing Association’s “Trout Cup.”

The teams competed to catch six steelhead trout, brown trout or salmon, and the team with the heaviest combined fish received a cash prize.
Ken Rodland, one of the competitors, said he’s fished in around 15 events.

“We got some good fish. We’ll see how they stand up against the rest of these guys,” said Rodland. “We’ve been fishing forever, you know, it’s just something we really love to do. I got my daughter in there today and it’s family-oriented, you know. Great time to spend a Sunday.”
And Rodland and his team ended up having the heaviest fish and were the champions of this year’s Trout Cup.
The Sport Fishing Association will have another Trout Cup in April 2025 for those looking to compete for the biggest Spring trout.
